Citizens Against Political Assassinations (CAPA), a non-partisan umbrella group, has elected this editor as the next chairman of a group founded to advocate for prompt and thorough disclosure of the facts surrounding the nation’s major assassinations and attempted assassinations.

After years of work as a Washington, DC-based non-profit executive, attorney and journalist, I was a cofounding board member of CAPA, which was led for nearly a decade by the late Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, M.D., J.D. an eminent forensic pathologist for six decades based in Pittsburgh.

Beginning in the 1960s, Dr. Wecht – the longtime medical examiner of Pittsburgh’s Allegheny County, as well as a widely published author, medical school professor and president of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American College of Legal Medicine – prominently and bravely critiqued official accounts of the shooting deaths of President John F. Kennedy in 1963 (JFK) and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) and New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) in 1968.

Until his death in 2024, Dr. Wecht led CAPA’s efforts in cooperation with others to expose and examine solid evidence pertaining to the deaths via conferences, books, advocacy to governments and grassroots actions.

Glenda de Vaney,  tireless and accomplished leader, guided CAPA as chair through its transitions beginning in 2024 while preserving Dr. Wecht’s high standards. CAPA's board also thanks for his vital service retiring CAPA board member Stephen Jaffe, president of Stanley Kramer Productions. Jaffe is a former staff investigator working for New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison during the 1960s on the murder conspiracy case against businessman Clay Shaw, the only criminal prosecution arising out of the JFK assassination.

Looking ahead, CAPA encourages visits to the organization's website: https://capa-us.org. “That’s a first step,” he said, “towards joining in CAPA’s ongoing work – which we want to expand in keeping with the standards for high-quality research that Dr. Wecht instilled and exemplified.” ###
