Hollywood Link to Kadafi’s Son Reported

James HirsenLibyan dictator Moammar Kadafi's third son, Saadi, was a financier of a Hollywood production company that announced $100 million in 2009 to use for new film projects, according to a news report by James Hirsen, a guest Sept. 15 on MTL Washington Update. The live  show with my co-host Scott Draughon on the My Technology Lawyer radio network may be heard by archive. Click for link here. Our first guest was author Jan Goodwin, as reported below. We addressed also highlights of the week's news, with a summary of major stories below.

Hirsen, an author, law professor and Newsmax Hollywood correspondent, published a column reporting: “In addition to funding from Saadi, Natural Selection was backed by various private equity groups both domestically and internationally.”  Hirsen today will draw on the larger lessons:  “As is fairly typical with regard to Hollywood funding,” he wrote, “there weren’t a whole lot of people who seemed to care whether or not the source of the seed money might be coming from a notorious Middle East regime.”  For details, tune in and visit his site.

The interview began after commentaries on the Sept. 7 Republican Presidential debate and my report: Obama Team Feared Coup If He Prosecuted War Crimes. GOP Probes Obama Fast-Track of $535 Million in Solar Dollars

Center for Public Integrity, / iWatch News, Solyndra Saga Continues, Matthew Mosk and Ronnie Greene Sept. 14, 2011.  The ill-fated and bankrupt solar company Solyndra is still in the news, thanks to more exclusive coverage from iWatch News. This week, the Center and partner ABC News obtained emails that showed White House officials had been closely watching the company’s fortunes in 2009 and indicated it may not be the best bet for federal loan guarantees. Too late, by then the Department of Energy had jumped to make Solyndra the poster child for the Obama administration’s new green-jobs stimulus program. Last week, we discovered the California-based outfit had received a special 1 percent loan, backed by $535 million in taxpayer-funded guarantees.

New Rules For VA Contracts Preferences

Washington Post, End of VA honor system cuts 70 percent of vendors with veteran status, Leah Nylen and Kathleen Miller, Sept. 12, 2012. Since 2008, the Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded billions of dollars in contracts under a program to steer work to firms owned by veterans without requiring proof of their eligibility for the funding. A new mandate forcing companies to prove their ownership and management status has led to the removal of at least 18,800 companies from the VA vendor preference list, the government said. Until last year, contractors were able to self-certify their status as veteran-owned businesses.

More Hacking Claims Against UK Conservatives, Murdoch

OpEd News, Brit Dom -- Madame Says Murdoch Rag Hacked Phone to Protect Conservatives, Miichael Collins, Sept. 14, 2011. A former Madame and dominatrix, Natalie Rowe, made high profile news yesterday in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Ms. Rowe said that her phone was hacked in 2005 just before the Daily Mirror did a story about her use of cocaine and other vice activities with Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne. The drug use and girls-for-hire action occurred, it is claimed, during and shortly after the time Osborne was a student at Oxford University and involved members of the elite Bullingdon drinking club.
